Ocean Acidification
The article “Anthropogenic ocean acidification over the twenty-first century and its impact on calcifying organisms” primarily discusses how anthropogenic activities such as use of gasoline contribute to the increase in the levels of carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide was reported to be the main culprit in ocean acidification. Moreover the acidification of ocean has cause massive degradation in the earth’s biodiversity. Because of the decrease in the pH level of the ocean it has greatly affected a lot of calcifying organisms like corals.
Since corals are very sensitive with respect to change in the pH level of the ocean, the decrease in the constant alkalinity requirement of such corals affect their maintenance of external carbonate skeleton. With respect to the points raise in the article, the sudden change in carbonate and carbon dioxide concentration in relation to industrial activities which is the main cause of the continuously increasing rate has been well discuss.
The article also was at least able to mention that there were some degrees of uncertainties.
That is the article could serve as a bridge in increasing the awareness of every human being with regard to the degradation of the environment. Moreover, it would be much better if the author was able to assess the degree of impacts in the changes of high-latitude sea water chemistry in the environment that was predicted to occur by the end of the century.
